Coaching: Confidence and Communication

Do you feel disconnected?

Whether it is romantically, socially or professionally, feeling disconnected from the people around you is one of the hardest burdens to bare. It's a natural part of human nature, the longing for belonging. But achieving that isn't always so straight forward. I have worked with hundreds of clients and so often I hear:

  • I find it hard to be emotionally vulnerable, even if I want to be.
  • Even when things are going really well, I feel empty inside.
  • I want to make deep connections but I find convocations intimidating.
  • When people ask me what I'm feeling, I freeze.
  • I want to face my emotions head on, but get overwhelmed.

If this sounds familiar, then maybe this course is for you.

If we want to go far, go together!

I'm Rebecca, founder of We are Delphi! I'm an ex British Diplomat turned therapist and coach. I have helped hundreds of people over thousands of hours connect with their partners and colleague, but most importantly, themselves.

In this time of globalisation and automation, it's never been more important to connect on the personal level. I have spent nearly two decades making communication my trade, I have taken the lessons I have learned over that time and from my own transformative education, to make this: 12 session course, to help you navigate communicating in the modern world.

How to build deeper connections.

Over the twelve (50-90 minute) sessions we will explore how to feel more confident communicating with others and develop your social and emotional inelegance so being open and vulnerable becomes a power not something to fear.

Session 1: Orientation & Outcomes

● Clarify why you’re here and what you want to achieve.
● Explore resistance and hesitation to coaching, surfacing unconscious beliefs.
● Use structured goal-setting (Locke & Latham, 2002) to set precise outcomes that we
will measure throughout.
● Introduce initial reflective practices: daily confidence journaling and baseline
self-assessment.

Session 2: Free Expression & Cognitive Awareness

● First 5-minute freestyle speaking exercise (recorded). Focus is not performance but
noticing what happens under pressure.
● Reflect in real-time thoughts
● Five whys exercise
● Introduce simple reframing exercise from Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (Neenan &
Dryden, 2002).

Session 3: Spotlight Work & Core Beliefs

● Freestyle speaking under simulated “spotlight” conditions (camera, imagined
audience).
● Identify core beliefs around judgment, competence, and “making sense.”
● Introduce narrative-building: how you describe yourself, your contribution, and your
value.
● Somatic exercise: practicing stillness and expansion of posture to anchor presence.

Session 4: Meetings & Hierarchy Dynamics

● Explore your natural risk strategies in meetings (fight, flight, freeze, appease).
● Introduction Transactional Analysis (Berne, 1964): identifying when you shift into
Parent, Adult, or Child roles at work.
● Practice intervention: holding ground when interrupted.
● Introduce re-authoring exercise (White & Epston, 1990): rewriting your role in
workplace hierarchies.

Session 5: Inclusive Communication & Power Distance

● Explore Hofstede’s power distance theory (2001) and its impact on how you defer,
dominate, or disengage.
● Practice chairing an “inclusive conversation” where different voices are brought in.
● Review video of speaking exercise and identify moments of either overcompensation
or retreat.
● Somatic drill: practicing grounded breathing to stay present during tension.

Session 6: Younger Parts & Inner Dialogue

● Begin Internal Family Systems work (Schwartz, 1995): identifying “younger parts” that
show up in self-doubt.
● Practice integration of those parts into the adult self.
● Speaking exercise: addressing an imagined audience from your adult state.
● Assign comfort-zone push: real-world conversation where you say what you normally
hold back.

Session 7: Confidence Through Movement & Gravitas Basics

● Somatic exploration: how movement, pace, and posture shift confidence.
● Record and review short presentation while experimenting with pacing and stillness.
● Gravitas theory (Sabini, 2016): what makes others take you seriously.
● Assign self-observation task: map moments in week where you either shrank back or
stood tall.

Session 8: Integration of Beliefs & Practice

● Review narrative shifts since Session One.
● Extended 10-minute speaking exercise with immediate playback and analysis.
● Explore assumptions you still hold about yourself and others.
● Coaching intervention: separating “fact” from “story” in workplace interactions.

Session 9: Continued Deep Core Work & Workplace Roles

● Focused exploration of one core limiting belief/assumption from previous sessions
● Use parts work or cognitive reframing or TA
● Map adult/parent/child dynamics with key figures at work.
● Speaking practice: embodying Adult voice in response to critical Parent or demanding
Child.

Session 10: Audit Review & Targeted Interventions

● Review Communication Audit (completed before programme).
● Compare audit findings with recordings so far.
● Identify top 2–3 communication issues (e.g. pace, eye contact, wordiness).
● Targeted drills to shift these in real time.
● Assign knowledge-building task: study curated examples of great communicators.

Session 11: Gravitas & Refinement

● Detailed breakdown of intonation, pacing, and presence in both in-person and online
formats.
● Work with video playback to refine strengths and cut weak habits.
● Add 2 new communication interventions (e.g. tactical pausing, framing language for
influence).
● Assign skill action: apply one intervention in a real work scenario.

Session 12: Action Plan & Sustained Growth

● Review recordings and progress since Session One.
● Consolidate new communication identity.
● Draft final action plan: personalised toolkit of daily, weekly, and situational strategies.
