Theatre Production Consultancy · Online · UK-Wide
As an artist in the UK today, it is not enough to make great work. You also have to be your own tour booker, accountant, social media manager and producer, often all at once. Owen has built a touring theatre company from a living room to international tours, and learned the business side the hard way so you do not have to.
Does this feel familiar?
It is best to do the job you want to do least, first thing in the morning. Sometimes all of the jobs are the one you want to do least. These are some of the things Owen hears most from artists and companies.
"I have a piece of work I believe in, but I have no idea what to actually do with it next."
On turning a show into a plan"Funding applications feel impossible. I do not know where to start or whether I am eligible."
On accessing funding, including for ADHD and dyslexia"I genuinely do not know how to budget a production. I just hope the money lasts."
On budgeting and getting paid"I want to tour but I have never booked a venue in my life. Where do I even begin?"
On booking and managing a tour"Social media feels like a full time job on top of the actual work."
On press, industry and social strategy"We are all friends in this company, but when stress mounts, the hard conversations get avoided."
On the people side of running a company"If you want to go far, go together. Whether you are a collective or a solo artist, maybe together we can get you that bit further."OWEN · Theatre Producer and Consultant
Drama school teaches the craft. It rarely teaches the business of actually sustaining a creative life, the funding, budgeting, touring, press and people management that everything else depends on.
Owen learned all of this the hard way, building a company from a living room to international tours. He can help you learn it the easier way.

Your Consultant
I am an actor and producer. I graduated from Lecoq in 2021, and for the past five years I have run a theatre company that grew from rehearsals in a living room to runs at Jackson Lane and the Southwark Playhouse, and international tours, all starting with minimal funding.
I devised and co-created award-winning plays, learned the business side of this industry, and landed touring contracts that would have seemed impossible at the start of this journey. The secret ingredient was an amazing group of people to do it alongside, and when we made mistakes, which we did, plenty, we learned from them. If you want to go far, go together. Whether you are part of a collective or a solo artist making your way in the world, maybe together we can get you that bit further.

What We Can Work On
Here are some of the things Owen had to learn the hard way, so you don't have to. Sessions are tailored to whatever is most useful for you right now.
You have a play or piece of theatre, but what do you actually want to do with it? The West End, a national tour, an international one? It is all achievable. Together we work backwards from your goal to figure out the exact, executable steps and a concrete timeline to get there.
We look at how to get you paid, including funding applications through Arts Council England and international sources. If ADHD or dyslexia makes funding applications feel impossible, Owen can introduce you to people who can help get applications done with you, at no cost.
Once you have money, how do you spend it? A proper budget tells you how much a project costs, proves to investors you understand your finances, gives you a benchmark for pricing your work to venues, shows what is realistically achievable, and tells you how much you can afford to pay yourself.
With a budget in place, how do you actually book a tour? It is all about connections and persistence. We build a plan starting with local previews and a fringe run, then move to contacting venues, finding technicians, preparing pre-tour reports so designers stay aligned, and scheduling the moving pieces. Overwhelming at first, clearer as it comes together.
Getting press and industry attention early is essential. We work through the timeline of when to start reaching out, how to find the right contacts, and how to think creatively about coverage. On the industry side, we identify who shares your artistic values, who inspires you, and how to build relationships with them, locally, nationally or internationally.
Staying relevant on social media can feel like a full time job, and often it is. We figure out what to post during a run versus during downtime, how to plan ahead so it does not take over your headspace, and what a sustainable strategy actually looks like for you.
Many theatre companies start as friends working with friends. When things go well, it is the best feeling in the world. As stress mounts and energy runs low, we look at how you and the people you work with can hold each other accountable for actions and inactions, while still being able to leave the workspace and remain friends.
The show is on the road. Now what does a tour manager actually do? Getting from A to B, knowing who's driving, who's buying food, who's briefing the lighting designer if something goes wrong. There are a million jobs on tour, but together we build a plan for how and when to do them. In the ever-shifting world of tour life, preparation is the key.
