The Art of Storytelling · Online · UK-Wide
Since people first gathered around fires, there have been stories. It is one of the oldest ways humans connect with each other. Whether you want to read to your children with more presence, hold a meeting room's attention, or simply feel more at home in your own voice, this 8-session practical programme is built for you.
Does this feel familiar?
Everyone has a story to tell. These are some of the things that get in the way of telling it well.
"I have stories I want to tell, but when I start speaking they never land the way I imagined."
On the gap between the story and the telling"My voice feels flat. I know there is more range in there but I do not know how to access it."
On vocal range and texture"I get breathless when I speak for any length of time, especially when I am nervous."
On breath and sustained speaking"I want to be more open with people but sharing anything personal feels exposing."
On vulnerability and connection"When I walk into a room I feel like I shrink. I want to feel like I belong there."
On presence and entering a space"I tell the same anecdotes over and over but they never quite get the reaction I am hoping for."
On structure and pacing in everyday storytelling"Everyone has a story to tell. I would love the chance to be part of yours."OWEN · Storytelling and Voice Coach

Your Coach
I am an actor with nearly two decades of experience in storytelling, hosting and devised theatre. From a young age I immersed myself in stories, and they have crafted me as much as I have learned to craft them.
Taking what I learned at one of Britain's top acting schools, East 15, I teach techniques and best practices in both story and vocal craft to help you hone your skills. Whether it is reading to your kids at night, captivating colleagues, or holding an audience spellbound, together we will explore the nature of storytelling, build the skills to be truly captivating, and grow your confidence in yourself and your voice along the way.

The Approach
This programme is built on two foundations. Every session draws from both.
Your voice is your instrument. The whole system, breath, articulation, tone, tempo and texture, needs to be understood and properly tuned. We work on this practically, in your body, so it becomes second nature rather than a technique you have to remember.
Not just how you tell a story, but how you craft a narrative. We work on structure, vulnerability, and presence so that whatever you are sharing, whether a performance or an anecdote, it lands the way you intend.
The Programme
Each session is practical and embodied. Every week builds on the last, working towards holding the spotlight with genuine confidence.
We begin on the floor, learning to drop the breath and breathe diaphragmatically. From there we connect the breath to the voice, then bring those concepts to your feet and connect breath to text.
We revisit floor work, scanning the body to release tension, then move into exercises that warm up the jaw, lips and tongue so they are awake and ready to articulate. We finish with vocal warm-ups, placing the voice in different parts of the body.
You will speak freely for five minutes so we can find your natural pace. We then focus on intentional breath, how it affects inflection and intent, before working through the "rollercoaster" exercise, where pace is actively shifted so you can feel how tempo changes mechanically in your body.
We explore what presence actually looks like. How you enter a space, hold it, make eye contact, and welcome a room in. We work on grounding your feet and energy, and what text delivery feels like when you are still and choose your movement deliberately.
We place the voice so your vocal range is warmed up, then explore how texture changes delivery, what it feels like to land a sentence like punching, or to ring it out like squeezing water from a sponge. We look at musicality, pitch, and how often you can modulate while still sounding natural.
We reflect on vulnerability in performance, why it matters, and what you want your audience to feel. We talk about how to feel safe while being authentically open, then begin to find a basic framework for your story. Homework: write a five-minute story to bring to the next session.
You bring your story to life. We work through it together, applying everything covered so far, breath, tempo, presence, texture, to refine the delivery. This session is about taking the techniques from isolated exercises and weaving them into one piece.
The final session brings everything together. You deliver your story in full, with Owen's guidance on any last adjustments. We finish with a look at how to keep developing after the programme ends, so the work continues beyond our sessions.

No. This programme is for anyone who wants to tell stories more compellingly, whether that is reading to your children, holding a room at work, or simply feeling more at ease with your own voice. No prior experience is needed.
Sessions are practical and embodied. You will be on your feet for most of it. Each session opens with a short check-in, moves through floor work and breath work, and builds towards applying the technique directly to your own material.
Not at the start. The early sessions focus on your voice and breath. Around the midpoint of the programme you will be asked to bring a short story or piece of text, which we then develop and refine together for the remaining sessions.
Yes, completely. All sessions are via Zoom. Despite the physical nature of the work, the techniques translate well to an online setting and many clients find it easier to practise in their own space.
No. Many clients are not performers at all. They are parents who want to read more engagingly, professionals who want to hold a room, or people who simply want to feel more confident telling their own stories.
